Inspiration for the series of paintings titled “Rational landscapes” is the Dutch landscape. I’m fascinated by the urge of people to control, restrain and manage all natural environment. Think of landscape and garden architecture, pergolas, sods of grass and plant cultivation. Each tiny part of Holland has its human trace. Dutch nature is completely cultivated and nature without function hardly exists anymore.
In my paintings I try to depict that fascination, what is a combination of surprise, admiration and abhorrence. To shape my ideas I first make photos and scetches. Than I let the work form itself. I watch closely, react and play with coincidence.
